Power Cables Tunnels
Sensa temperature monitoring systems are deployed in strategic power cable tunnels, ducts, basements and adits. When used in this role the unique monitoring system can fulfill the multiple roles of fire detection, and ambient temperature monitoring for control of tunnel ventilation, in addition to the power cable monitoring role. This delivers a cost effective solution for the multiple tasks of tunnel and power cable monitoring.
The sensing fiber for fire detection is usually installed in the roof and sometimes the tunnel floor. When the fiber is formed into a loop through the tunnel this enables interrogation of the fiber from both ends, thus providing redundancy in the event of a fiber break as well as a faster and more accurate measurement.
Ancillary plant temperatures in the tunnel can also be monitored by wrapping or placing fiber in the vicinity of high risk equipment such as cable joints, ancillary cabling, low voltage switchgear and lighting boxes. This provides proactive management of fire risk with benefits for health and safety as well as substantial cost and asset availability benefits.
