Who is Sensa?
Sensa is the world leader in fiber optic sensing solutions for critical assets around the globe. Fibre optic-based temperature monitoring was developed at Southampton University, UK and commercialized by York Sensors from 1984. Following the successful deployment of the technology, York Sensors was rebranded as Sensa in 2001. Reflecting the importance of fiber optic sensing for down hole applications, the company was acquired by Schlumberger in 2002.
How big is Sensa?
We are a $18.5 million company, headquartered in the UK and employing over 100 people. Our turnover represents a 30 percent increase on the previous year. As part of the Schlumberger group we have the financial and administrative support of a global conglomerate. Schlumberger has 52,000 staff operating in 80 different countries and operating revenue of over $11.48 billion.
What does Sensa do?
Sensa is the worlds leading company offering fiber optic based distributed temperature sensing and monitoring solutions. Our operational focus is on creating solutions for fire detection, power circuit temperature monitoring, trace heat monitoring and leak detection systems for pipeline and cryogenic storage. We operate throughout the entire value circle – from concept and development to installation and service to deliver reliable and robust solutions to meet the varying needs of our clients and partners.
Who are your clients?
Sensa operates around the globe and has clients in over 60 countries worldwide. We are contracted to provide solutions by end users, consultants and consortiums alike. Our client list includes well- known names such as ABB, Skanska, Samsung, National Grid, Esso and Shell.
What is fiber optic temperature sensing?
Advanced optical sensing technology is harnessed to deliver fast, accurate, high-resolution measurements along the entire length of the fiber optic cable. The technology represents a powerful breakthrough in temperature measurement of critical assets. Analysis of light waves passed through the fiber enable the point of any temperature event to be determined to within a meter of cable. Deployed to detect temperature changes as small as 1ºC, the fibre optic sensor can cover up to 60Km from a single control unit. Multiple units are used to provide additional monitoring capability.
Where can this technology be deployed?
Sensa has developed bespoke systems to provide fiber optic distributed temperature sensing solutions for: - Fire detection - Power circuit temperature monitoring - Trace heat monitoring - Leak detection systems for pipeline and cryogenic storage (LNG) - Monitoring other critical assets
What benefits does this technology bring?
Fiber optic technology has many advantages of traditional temperature sensing technologies. Sensa has developed solutions that provide fast, accurate, high- resolution data to determine the location and intensity of any temperature event. Based on fiber optic distributed temperature sensing technology, our solutions give continuous repeatable measurements in real time of the location and temperature of many thousands of points along an optical fiber. By monitoring these high value assets, our DTS solution will identify any issues before they become major problems, reducing risk and thereby minimizing lost revenue and repair costs and in some cases minimizing risk to life.
