Sensa’s fiber optic sensing solutions are ideally suited for temperature monitoring in a substation environment.

Switchgear cabinets, plant rooms, oil tanks, transformer casings, MVAC terminal boxes have all been successfully monitored and protected using Sensa’s temperature monitoring systems

By incorporating a fiber sensing cable within a high voltage  transformer, close to the  windings and core, a complete picture of the temperature profile can be provided of  the inside of  the transformer.  This can assist with identifying emerging problems and provide early warning that may cause a breakdown of insulation or even an explosion.  The temperature data can also be used to provide an improved and more accurate prediction of the transformer rating than conventional methods are able to achieve.
